I agree that Larry Chisholm is the best qualified candidate for District Attorney in Chatham County.

I agree that Larry Chisolm is qualified to be DA, at least he worked in the DA’s office at one time. However, I have to disagree with you that he’s the best qualified.
I’m supporting Jerry Rothschild because he is seasoned, fair, and actively involved in making Chatham County a safer place to live. I believe that being currently and actively involved with victims, police, and the law community is the defining advantage that Rothschild has over any of the candidates-including David Lock. Because Rothschild is a working part of the system, he understands the challenges that the DA’s office faces. He knows what works, and he knows how to work with the people who get things done. Yes there are problems with the way the DA’s office is working–no one knows that better than Mr, Rothschild. But there are also some good things going on. An effective leader would take what’s good and revamp what’s not so good. I believe Jerry Rothschild is that leader.
I am a public school teacher in an inner city school here. I know first hand the problems that so many of our children face. The reasons so many of our young black men choose to take the wrong path cannot be solved within the justice system. Crime committed as a teenager or adult is merely a symptom of issues that began at birth for many of our youth. Poverty, parents absent because they are working two or three jobs, young children raising their siblings and not being raised themselves, babies having babies, hunger and malnourishment, lack of adult attention–these issues are at the core of our crime problem in Savannah. Unfortunately the DA cannot fix these problems, nor can the Board of Education. WE must fix these problems. WE must help each other. Part of our job as part of this community is to uphold the laws that are part of our social contract. Prevention is not the role of the DA’s office-prevention is our duty. Enforcement is the job of the DA.
I’m not sure why Larry Chisolm decided to leave the DA’s office. Maybe he gets paid more at Savannah State, or maybe, like myself, he wanted a less stressful job. I understand that, but I don’t think we want a DA who isn’t committed to the work of the DA’s office. I want a DA who is not only smart and qualified, but also passionate about the safety of our community.

In Georgia, I believe, we still have the 3-strikes-you are-out (or IN prison) after three guilty verdicts or pleas. So why on earth would a Democratic candidate, like Mr.Chisolm, an African-American male at that, be pushing for a defendant to take more pleas?

These were the exact words uttered by Mr. Chisolm during a live television debate. Those words, “take a plea to speed up the time a defendant sits waiting in prison” made my YellowDog Hairs stand on end. How could he forget his own? That the majority of our accused are African-American males, like himself?

    – As much as I agree that the legal system is far from swift, we must push for a FAIR hearing and a FAIR trial and NOT push our young men to “plea guilty” as Mr.Chisolm will continue to do if he becomes our District Attorney. I expected much more understanding & creativity from Mr. Chisolm, especially as he is “locally born.”
